Common wall types

Mid-century modern homes with concrete, terrazzo and louvered walls

Where: Lido Shores, Bayou Louise on north Siesta Key and other Sarasota School areas.

Mounting: Walls may be concrete, block or louvered with limited solid surface; plan the TV location around glass and louvers and confirm what is behind finishes.

Block-and-stucco single-family homes

Where: Most mid-century and later neighborhoods across the city.

Mounting: Masonry anchors into block, lags into studs on interior partitions.

Bayfront and Gulf-front condo towers

Where: Downtown bayfront and Lido Key and Siesta Key buildings.

Mounting: Poured concrete; hammer drill, concrete anchors and surface raceways, with association approval and a COI.

Older frame bungalows

Where: Neighborhoods near downtown such as Laurel Park and Hudson Bayou.

Mounting: Wood framing with plaster or old drywall; find studs and pre-drill.

Tips before you mount

• Sarasota School homes use wide overhangs, louvered walls and large glass areas; there is often little solid wall, so pick the TV wall before buying a screen size.
• Mid-century homes with exposed concrete, terrazzo or cypress wood walls need masonry-rated bits and careful layout; avoid drilling into finished wood or terrazzo that cannot be patched.
• Barrier-island condos on Lido and Siesta Key face salt spray; use stainless hardware and outdoor-rated TVs on balconies.
• Bayfront condos require association approval and a COI naming the association; request the building's contractor rules first.
• Older bungalows may have plaster or old drywall; test-drill and use backer boards for heavy mounts.
• Louvered or glass-heavy rooms get strong light; choose a wall that avoids glare and consider a tilt mount.
• Wiring: use an in-wall rated power kit and CL2/CL3 cable; in concrete and block homes a paintable raceway is usually the practical option.
