Walls in Hallandale Beach homes: what to know before mounting a TV or building a media wall
What to know before mounting a TV or building a media wall
Hallandale Beach is dominated by condominium living along the Intracoastal and the ocean, from 1980s buildings in the Three Islands area to newer towers such as Beachwalk, completed in 2014. Poured-concrete walls, association approval and certificate-of-insurance rules shape most TV and media-wall jobs here. Census figures show a median build year of 1975 and about 69.9% of homes in buildings with 20 or more units.

Common wall types
Poured-concrete condo walls and demising walls
Where: High-rise condominiums in Three Islands and the Intracoastal towers such as Beachwalk, plus older oceanfront buildings.
Mounting: Concrete requires a hammer drill and 1/4" concrete screws or 3/8" wedge anchors; party walls between units are often concrete or double drywall on metal studs, so check the wall before drilling. Wire runs are usually surface raceway.
Metal-stud partitions with drywall
Where: Interior partitions in most mid-rise and high-rise condo units.
Mounting: Snap toggles or toggle bolts rated for the load, or blocking added behind the drywall, hold flat mounts; full-motion arms should reach a stud flange or blocking.
Concrete-block and stucco single-family homes
Where: The smaller share of detached houses and townhomes outside the condo corridor.
Mounting: Block walls take sleeve anchors or concrete screws through the drywall and furring strips into the solid block face.
Balcony and terrace walls
Where: Oceanfront and Intracoastal units with covered balconies.
Mounting: Exterior-facing concrete or stucco walls are exposed to salt air; use stainless hardware, an outdoor-rated display and sealed penetrations, and confirm the association allows anything fastened to the building envelope.
Tips before you mount
- Most condo buildings here require written association approval before any drilling into concrete, and many require the installer's certificate of insurance (COI) naming the association and management company; ask the manager for the rules before scheduling.
- Buildings often limit work to weekday daytime hours and require elevator reservations or protection; plan the install window around those rules rather than around the installer's schedule.
- Before drilling a concrete wall, ask the building whether post-tension cables or conduit are embedded in the slab or walls; vertical walls are usually safe for shallow anchors, but ceilings and floors need a scan.
- Where the unit has a concrete wall behind the TV, choose 1/4" concrete screws for flat mounts and 3/8" wedge anchors for full-motion arms, setting them in the solid concrete rather than in a seam or a block joint.
- Balcony TVs on the Intracoastal or oceanfront face salt spray and strong afternoon sun: use an outdoor-rated display, stainless fasteners and drip loops on every cable, and avoid screens not made for direct sun and humidity.
- In metal-stud walls, a typical 65-inch flat mount is fine on snap toggles rated well above the load, but add a plywood backer inside the wall if an articulating arm will be used.
- In-wall cable runs: use an in-wall rated power kit and CL2/CL3 low-voltage cable; in poured concrete, a paintable raceway is usually the only code-compliant concealment.
