Tips before you mount
- In Grogan's Mill houses built in the 1970s-80s, check wiring age and stud spacing before cutting into walls for in-wall cable.
- Pine-forest lots shade houses and keep exterior walls damp; humidity in Southeast Texas corrodes ordinary hardware, so use stainless steel on patio TVs.
- Village associations and design review committees may restrict exterior conduit or visible equipment; check covenants before outdoor mounts.
- Brick-veneer houses: lag into interior studs with 5/16" lags about 2.5" long, not the veneer.
- Stone fireplaces: use concrete screws or 3/8" sleeve anchors with a hammer drill and check heat limits.
- Cables: NEC 400.12 forbids hiding a regular TV cord in the wall; use a recessed power kit and CL2/CL3 cable.
- Condos near Town Center and the Waterway usually require a COI naming the association.
