"Fully guaranteed" is easy to say in an ad. We wanted to know what installers actually commit to, so we checked warranty and insurance statements published by the 987 real companies in the GetMediaWall catalog.
Most installers don't state a warranty term at all
Only 77 companies publish a specific warranty length on their own websites. Another 27 mention a "lifetime" guarantee in some form. The rest say nothing specific, which doesn't mean they won't stand behind their work, but it does mean you should ask, and get the answer in writing.
How long the stated warranties are
| Warranty length | Companies |
|---|---|
| 1 month | 3 |
| 3 months (90 days) | 12 |
| 6 months | 5 |
| 1 year | 27 |
| 2 years | 11 |
| 3 years | 10 |
| 5 years | 5 |
| 10 years | 3 |
One year is the industry norm for workmanship. TV-mounting specialists that offer longer coverage (2-3 years, sometimes lifetime on labor) tend to use it as a selling point. Integrators that install home theaters and automation more often give one year on labor and pass along the manufacturer's warranty on equipment.
What a warranty usually covers (and doesn't)
From the terms companies publish, coverage typically falls into three buckets:
Full-motion TV wall mount bolted into studs with an in-wall cable plate
- Workmanship or labor: the mount coming loose, a crooked install, a failed in-wall cable run done by the installer.
- Hardware the installer supplied: mounts and brackets bought through the company are sometimes covered for longer, even "lifetime".
- Equipment: TVs, speakers and receivers are covered by the manufacturer, not the installer. Some integrators will handle the claim for you.
Typical exclusions to ask about: customer-supplied mounts, damage from moving the TV yourself, and walls that were already damaged.
Insurance, licensing and same-day service
- 189 companies state on their website that they are insured. Ask for a certificate of insurance, especially in condos where the building may require one.
- 149 companies advertise same-day service.
- 234 companies offer a free estimate: 114 on-site, 73 by phone and 47 either way.
Licensing rules for low-voltage and TV work vary by state, and the catalog does not verify licenses. Check your state's contractor board if a license number is listed.

Questions to ask before you book
- How long is the workmanship warranty, and is it written on the invoice?
- Does it cover a mount I supply, or only hardware you provide?
- If a cable inside the wall fails, is the repair covered?
- Are you insured, and can you send the certificate?
- Who handles a manufacturer warranty claim on equipment you sold me?
